Project Overview
Weekend Retreat Design University Project Project Overview: This project aimed to design a weekend retreat inspired by the minimalist aesthetic of architect John Pawson. The retreat was designed to be prefabricated using shipping containers, making it cost-effective, sustainable, and quick to assemble. The design emphasized panoramic views, open-plan living, and natural materials to create a serene and relaxing getaway. Key Objectives: Design a weekend retreat inspired by John Pawson's minimalist style. Utilize shipping containers for a cost-effective, sustainable, and efficient construction method. Create a space that offers panoramic views and abundant natural light. Incorporate open-plan living and natural materials to foster a relaxed atmosphere. Design Approach: Prefabrication: Utilize shipping containers as the primary building structure for cost-efficiency and sustainability. Panoramic Views: Maximize natural light and views by incorporating large windows, glass doors, and glazing in all rooms and spaces. Open-Plan Layout: Create a spacious and open feeling by avoiding enclosed spaces and maximizing integration of natural light. Natural Materials: Use light-coloured materials to complement the natural surroundings and create a serene ambiance. Sustainability Features: Off-the-Grid Potential: Design the retreat to be adaptable for off-grid living with features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and energy-efficient systems. Overall Concept: The retreat's design seeks to create a minimalist and serene escape that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. By combining the principles of John Pawson's architecture with the efficiency of prefabricated construction, the project aims to deliver a sustainable and enjoyable weekend getaway.
